Adam and Eve

The story of Adam and Eve is one of the most popular bible stories out there. It is in the first book on the bible (Genesis), this book lets you know how the earth was formed, but starting in 2:1-24 it is the story of Adam and Eve. And I think it is safe to say that we all know that God makes Adam first, and then Eve is made from Adam (his rib), then Eve eats from the tree of life, (which God told them not to eat from), that the serpent encouraged her to do, but not only did Eve eat of the fruit, but she is the one that gave it to her husband, and that is why we are cursed as a people. And that is the short version of what most of us know.

But I have been lead by the spirit to really dig into different messages in this story.

Ok so the first part of the story that really got to me was Gensis 2:18 “The Lord GOD said “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him”

This opened my eyes to understanding that the relationship between a husband and a wife is not soley just for them, and it is not just for attraction or love (even though we all know that is a component that goes along with it), but GOD brings the man his wife that is “a helper that is suitable for him”, a husband and a wife are supposed to help each other, and GOD gives him a wife that is SUITABLE FOR HIM. Their marriage is supposed to be for a purpose.

Genesis 2:21 “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, HE took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib HE had taken out of the man, and HE brought her to the man.”

At this point in my study, I often ponder on this part; I think about why GOD had to put Adam to sleep, (I have heard some theories), but I want to hear from GOD and what HE is trying to tell me. And still do not have an answer but I know that this is a VERY IMPORTANT PEICE OF THE STORY! I think it could maybe because GOD needed to be the one that introduces Eve to Adam, and Adam had to be asleep (resting, and distraction free), and even though she was brought out of Adam he didn’t know that his wife was in him until GOD was the one who brought her to him. “Hmmm… I think I just figured it out! LOL

Genesis 2:25 “Adam and his wife were both naked and they felt no shame”.

The fact that Adam and his wife felt naked and no shame, shows me that their relationship was pure. They were doing things God’s way.  This makes me think that when you are with your significant other (or even dating, or a courtship) when there is honesty and integrity and no crazyiness and infidelity of ANY kind going on, and GOD is in the forefront of the relationship, that there is no reason to not be secure in your relationship.  When I think about this verse pertaining to dating and courtship I think that it is crucial that we don’t do anything to compromise ourselves. During the times of friendship/dating/courting, we should not settle and allow that person to distract us from our relationship with GOD.

Now in Genesis 3 it introduces us to The Fall of Adam and Eve, this is where the serpent starts talking to Eve and she engages his crazy behind! First of all let me say, what was she doing engaging in conversation with the enemy? Ok, lets look at the conversation:

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman “Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden.”

3:2-3 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the tree in the garden, but God did say you must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it or you will die”.

3:4 You will not certainly die”, the serpent said to the woman. For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

Ok, lets stop! My first problem is “WHY IS EVE TALKING TO THIS FOOL?”

Did you notice that the serpent asked her a question about something that God had told her?  (I think that there are a couple of reasons why the serpent asked her the question he asked her). Number 1 is he was trying to get information on what GOD told her. The enemy does not know the things that GOD tells us, he does not know the plan that GOD has for our lives, so he tries to confuse us by questioning what GOD promises us. Number 2 is of course to confuse us. Once Eve answered his question, he made a statement to Eve that was a lie, he said “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God knowing good and evil”. SHE WAS ALREADY MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD!!!

It says in Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Once we know this: that GOD made us in HIS image, then we will be more confident and have the faith that HE is needing us to have in order for him to fulfill the plan HE has for our lives.

Alrighty lets continue: So after she has this conversation with the serpent, she eats the fruit and gives it to her husband to eat. Right after they eat the fruit they are immediately realized they were naked and they sewed fig leaves to cover themselves.

So this brings me to my next point. After all of this happens in Genesis 3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

Genesis 3:9 But the Lord God called to the man “Where are you? 10. He answered, “I heard you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid. And He said “who told you, you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

We all know that GOD knows and sees EVERYTHING, it clearly says in His word that God will never leave nor forsake us. God knows when we sin, and He is there for us NO MATTER WHAT! When we sin we have the tendency to try to hide from GOD, but did you notice that God called them? It’s not like He didn’t know where they were. He needed them to speak up, so that He can help them.  Have you ever felt like you sinned so bad that you felt like GOD couldn’t help you. (Well that is the trick of the enemy, we learned that right?) Yes we did! GOD IS ALWAYS THERE! ALWAYS!!

So lets keep going, after GOD asks them what happened they play the blame game and GOD curses them, do you know what GOD does??? Lets look at Genesis 3:21 “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”

THIS PART REALLY GETS ME!!! Did you see what I seen? Did you see that??!! Ok, Ok, let me calm down!

Alright, alright, calming down, I promise!

So let me tell you why this is so compelling to me. Even though Adam and Eve totally disregarded GOD’s rules HE was still there for them! HE took the time to COVER THEM! Even though they went TOTALLY against HIS rules, (which if you notice HE told them not to do it because HE was trying to protect them). But GOD still takes the time to make some clothes for them. This is AMAZING TO ME!! I makes me so emotional to know that GOD LOVES US NO MATTER WHAT! He knows that we are going to make mistakes, he knows that we are NOT perfect, nor does he expect us to be. That is why He says in His word “I can do ALL things THORUGH Christ who strengthens me”. He knows that we will make mistakes, but the GREAT thing about GOD is that HE is ALWAYS there to help us pick up the pieces. We just need to acknowledge him, and keep HIM first.

So that is it for this study. I encourage you to read this chapter of the bible and see what GOD is revealing to you in it. Let me know what you think.

Never get too comfortable, always keep GOD first.

Sincerely,

Keisha

The Book of Samuel 3:1-20

I am an avid reader of the bible!! I can say that it is my source of nourishment! I have been a believer in Christ for over 10 yrs now, and I always knew that HE died on the cross for our sins, and that there was a GOD (and you have heard me talk about this in previous posts). So I would like to have a little bible study (well this is me being preacher Keisha, so if only I listen, then it was just meant for me and what GOD is revealing to me and my life), but I do believe that other people can get something from someone else’s knowledge or what they have been through. I believe that we can learn from someone else’s pain or journey (even though we have our own, and someone else going through something will NOT stop us from going through whatever GOD is needing us to go through) because we ALL have PURPOSE! Remember that!!

Ok, so I have been reading several books in the bible at once. I usually read a Proverb that is pertaining to the day (since there are 31 Proverbs, I read the one that is the same as the day; for instance, like if today is the 3rd of the month, I read Proverb 3). So I read that and make sure I highlight my favorite verse or one that really caught my eye, and I meditate on it. Besides that I will read a book that I have been curious about, or sometimes I just flip through it, and will start reading whatever catches my eye (just FYI, I never read anything in the bible by ACCICIDENT), GOD knows what HE is needing me to hear, or read, and WHEN HE is revealing something to me. Let me give you a few examples:

There was one time that I really wanted to speak with a friend about a certain situation, but it was a little challenging to for me to do it. I spoke with GOD about it, and HE lead me to read the book of Samuel (Samuel 3:1-21; I am going to break it down for you (you can go in and read the story, I encourage you to).

So in this particular story Samuel is a young man under the leadership under Eli; so Samuel is trying to go to sleep, but the Lord keeps calling his name, but he doesn’t recognize the Lord’s voice (he keeps thinking that his teacher Eli is calling him). After the 3rd time that Samuel comes to Eli thinking that he is calling him, Eli recognizing that it is the Lord that is calling Samuel. He lets Samuel know that it is the Lord that is calling him, and he instructs him that when he goes back to sleep, and the Lord calls him again, he should answer to GOD so that GOD would be able to share what HE has for him. So Samuel does it, (he goes and lays back down, and when he hears the Lord call him, he answered this time) and that is when the Lord spoke to him and told him to tell Eli (his teacher) that HE is about to do something in Isreal that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle. He also told Samuel to tell Eli that he and his family will be judged because of a sin that he knew about and Eli did nothing about it.  (Now can you imagine how Samuel must have felt to hear this news about his teacher?!). Ok so the next morning Eli asked Samuel “what did the Lord say?” But of course Samuel was scared to tell Eli. And Eli noticed the hesitation of Samuel and told him: “Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely, if you hide from me anything HE told you”. So Samuel told him.

I read this story at the exact time that I needed it; it was GOD giving me instruction and confirmation that I had to talk to my friend about what I needed to talk to her about, (and it was on my heart because it was a spiritual thing). You notice how GOD was calling Samuel all that time, and it wasn’t until he listened that he finally realized that it was the voice of GOD. What really trips me out in this story is the news that GOD is telling Samuel to tell Eli, (this is some tough news)

But it goes to show that when GOD speaks to us, it is not always going to be what we want to hear, or it will be tough to take in or to do. And it can be pertaining to a close friend or family member. This is where (in our friendships) we need to be mature enough to be there for that person through not only the good times, but the tough times also. And if the friendship was truly meant to be then that friend will understand.  After Samuel tells Eli what the Lord told him Eli’s response is: “He is the Lord; let him do what is good in his eyes”.  Wow, (imagine if you just heard the news that GOD was going to deal with you because of not listening to HIM!). But Eli takes the news with grace. So if you have a friend that is a believer like you, even though the news may be hard to take, if it is from the LORD then they will understand.

I pray that this story inspires you to do the right thing, take the time to LISTEN to the LORD and I promise you HE will provide you what you are needing, when you need it.

Always remember…Never get too comfortable, always put GOD first.

Sincerely,

Keisha
